Comparing Backup Types

Normal (full) backup

Incremental Backup

Mirror Backup

Differential Backup

Definition
GBM will back up all the selected files each time the backup job is run. New files will also be appended to the selection.

GBM includes all files that have changed since the last backup run (regardless of whether it is normal or incremental). Deleted files will not be removed from the backup set.

GBM includes all files that have changed since the last normal (full) or mirror backup, missing files are also deleted from the backup set. The resulting backup archive consists of either one compressed file or one folder.
GBM includes all files changed or added since the last normal (full) backup. Each backup run will create a new file/folder on the storage media containing new and changed files.

Rollback
N/A Can be enabled or disabled Disabled (one catalog entry will be recorded) Forced
Purging
Enabled Enabled only when rollback is enabled.
Purging will delete a complete backup set, including a normal backup and all its subsequent increments
Disabled Works in the following two methods:
• Delete a complete backup set, including a normal backup and all its subsequent differential backups.
• Delete intermediate differential backups, as long as the most recent normal backup run and the last differential are intact
Data & storage media limitations
None If rollback is disabled then incremental backup can not be performed onto non-rewritable media, or FTP or Tape is disabled. Backup can not be spanned over multiple disk volumes. Mirror Backup is not supported when data after compression exceeds 2GB in size,

Supported Media
All All if rollback is enabled
If rollback is disabled:
• CD-RW & DVD+-RW,(using packet writing only – one disk only)
