How to restore Outlook data manually?

  1. If your backup is stored on CD/DVD, copy the backup file to a local hard disk location. If you got an error message telling you that the data can't be copied, then you might need to use a CD/DVD data recovery utility such as ISObuster (shareware)
  2. If your backup files were backed up in EXE format, then extract the .gbp file by going to "Tools" in the menu bar then choosing "Extract Archive from EXE file"
  3. Genie Backup Manager uses Zip format to backup your data, so you can rename the .gbp extension to .zip and use any compression utility that supports zip (such as Winzip - shareware) to open the file.
  4. After opening the renamed file, extract its contents to a temp location of your choice. Now you have all your data, but you need to restore it manually. If you fail to open the file go to step 5, if the file opens, go to step 6.
  5. If you are unable to open the file, then:
    1. Download these small utilities
      http://www.genie-soft.com/download/ZIPFIX.EXE
      (75kb)
      or http://www.genie-soft.com/download/ZIP_Repair.exe (397kb)
    2. Start the application then choose the renamed zip file and click next
    3. If the corruption wasn't too severe, your file should now be fixed and saved under a new name (Salvaged.zip) … rename the file back to gbp and trying restoring using GBM. If the same problem persists, then retry step 4
  1. You can restore your settings by locating *.reg files in the temp location and executing each one
  2. To restore your emails and folders start Outlook and choose Files > Import and Export >import from another Program or File... > Personal Folder File
  3. Browse to the folder in which you stored the extracted data, and go to the folder OutlookData and select the PST file then press Next. This should restore all your outlook mail folders.
  4. If you had your backup data spanned over multiple disks, you can repeat the same process with the sequentially numbered files (*.c000, *.c001, *.c002 etc ...) renaming each file to (.zip)

If outlook gives the following error: The file “Path of the PST file” is not a personal folders file, please click here for solutions.
