Incremental, Differential, and Mirror backups are running as full

SYMPTOMS:

The backup type in settings is set to increment, mirror, or differential type; however it keeps backing up all the selected files each time instead of only new and changed files.

CAUSE:

There are different causes, can be one of the following:
All Types:

  • You created two separate jobs; one full and one for the changes

For mirror/incremental with rollback disabled Backups:

  • When backup with compression is used the data exceeds 2GB in its compressed form
  • Changed one on the settings like compression or encryption
  • Moved the backup to a new location
  • Aborted in a critical state of the backup process

For Differential/Incremental with rollback enabled

  • When backup spanned over multiple disk volumes/location or the last backup in a different location
  • Changed one on the settings like compression or encryption
  • Aborted in a critical state of the backup process

RESOLUTION:

  • If you are creating two separate backups, if that’s the case create one backup and set the option to incremental/differential/mirror; it will perform a full backup for the first run and then continues backing up changes.
  • Avoid performing cause 2, 3, and 4 of the mirror backup section.
  • In case of backup spanned to multiple locations or last backup is in a different location: go to Tools >> Global Preferences >>Cataloging and select the option “Read index from catalog”. This will enable GBM to read the backup index from your local hard drive instead of the actual backup

APPLIES TO:
GBM Pro 6 and above
