Scheduling Backup Troubleshooting - Windows Vista / 7 and 8

GBM uses Windows Task Scheduler to schedule the backup tasks. However, under certain circumstances, Windows fails to run the scheduled tasks. Here are steps to troubleshoot scheduling issues.

  1. Run the Job manually from GBM: If the scheduled task does start but encountered problems in the run, open GBM and run the task from there as it may be a problem from the backup job itself. If you encounter problems in the manual run, please contact technical support.

  2. Check the scheduled task status: If your scheduled tasks are running in different times than expected or
not running at all, check your scheduled tasks:

    • Go to Start> Type Task Scheduler
    • From the left side pane click Task Scheduler library> Click the job from the middle.
    • Remove all unwanted schedules of the task or edit the schedule time of the schedule task by
right-clicking the scheduled task> properties> under the Triggers tab you can edit the schedule.
You can also edit the scheduled tasks via GBM > Edit Previous Jobs.
    • You can also check the Status column in the Scheduled Tasks window. The following table describes the status types.
Status Description
Ready Thetask is not running, or it ran and was successful.
Running The task is currently being run.
Missed One or more attempts to run this task were missed.
Could not start The most recent attempt to start the task failed.

For details on the scheduled tasks status, go to step 4.

  1. Run the job via Task Scheduler: You can try to attempt a manual run by opening the scheduled task in the task wizard> Right-click> Run and see if the tasks runs.

  2. Check the scheduled task History tab for detailed tasks status: The Schedule Task History enables you to view
more information about the status of a scheduled task.

    • Click the job from the middle.
    • Click the History Tab
    • Right click the error file with the error sign
    • Check the Event Properties.

Usually, you can search the Microsoft knowledge base with the error codes you are encountering and find fixes and workarounds for common errors.

  3. Manually schedule the task: You may refer to knowledgebase 187 on how to manually schedule on Windows Vista

  4. Schedule a Task non- related to GBM: Try scheduling a task that is not related to GBM so you can identify if the problem is related to GBM or Windows
